What Happens During a Newborn Photoshoot

Many parents wonder what happens during a newborn photoshoot, especially when it’s done at home.

This guide walks you through the full process — so you know exactly what to expect, from start to finish, in a calm and comfortable session.

Before the Photoshoot

Before the session, there’s very little you need to prepare.

Prior to the shoot, I’ll communicate with you through WhatsApp to go through the available styles and colour themes. This helps us plan the look you prefer, so everything is prepared in advance.

On the day of the photoshoot, I’ll bring all the selected props, wraps, and setups to your home — so you don’t need to worry about preparing anything.

The goal is to keep things simple and stress-free for you. Understanding what happens during a newborn photoshoot can help you feel more relaxed and prepared for the session.

Setting Up the Space

When I arrive, I’ll take a quick look around your home to find the best spot with natural light. If needed, I’ll also use simple lighting to ensure the photos turn out soft and well-lit.

A small area of about 2.5m x 2.5m is usually enough to set up props and create a cozy shooting space. Most homes work perfectly fine — there’s no need for a large space or special setup.

In some cases, we may shift a small piece of furniture slightly to make space — but everything is handled quickly and carefully.

The goal is to keep things simple and comfortable for you, without any hassle.

Starting the Session

We’ll begin at your baby’s pace.

Typically, the session starts after feeding, when your baby is relaxed and comfortable. There’s no rushing — we take time to settle your baby before starting any photos.

The goal is always to create a calm and natural experience.

What Happens During a Newborn Photoshoot

During the session, we’ll go through the selected styles that were discussed beforehand, so everything is already planned and prepared. This helps the session flow smoothly without needing any last-minute decisions.

Each setup is done one at a time, with your baby’s comfort always coming first. The session is fully baby-led, which means we follow your baby’s pace — allowing time for feeding, settling, and breaks whenever needed.

Typically, we’ll capture 3 different styles using wraps, props, and simple, natural setups. The focus is on creating soft, timeless images rather than overly complicated poses.

If your baby prefers to stay more awake or needs a little more time to settle, the session will gently adapt — using simpler setups or wrapping techniques to keep your baby comfortable and secure.

There’s no rushing at any point. The entire session is designed to be calm, flexible, and stress-free for both you and your baby.

If Your Baby Is Awake or Unsettled

If your baby is more alert, the session simply adapts:

  • We move into more natural, relaxed poses
  • Wrapping techniques can be used to help your baby feel secure
  • Simple, comfortable setups are prioritised

What Happens After the Photoshoot

All the images (except blurry shots) are carefully edited to ensure they are clean, natural, and consistent in style. You won’t need to go through a selection process or choose your favourites — everything is prepared for you.

Unlike many studio packages where you need to select and top up for additional images, everything here is already included — so you can keep all the moments without any pressure.

You’ll receive around 40 to 50 fully edited softcopies, allowing you to keep every meaningful moment without worrying about additional charges or top-ups.

The goal is to make the entire experience simple and stress-free, from the photoshoot all the way to receiving your final images.
